UFS became a well-known institution, boasting 164 NRF-accredited researchers and 2 521 staff members. Our students can participate in 22 different sport disciplines and study from 671 182 library books, including 14 000 ebooks. UFS online Registration usually takes place in January and February


Step 1:  Get your application form.

  • Online Application:
    Undergraduate and postgraduate applicants use the same online application process.

Step 2:  Complete your application form in full.

Step 3:  Attach all supporting documents.

Proceed through the easy steps and submit your electronic application. Upload copies of the following in PDF or JPEG format when you apply for undergraduate studies:


  • Your ID or passport
  • Your parent’s ID or passport if you are younger than 18 years
  • National Senior Certificate, if you have already matriculated
  • Your Grade 11 final results with the school’s stamp
  • Grade 12 June results with the school’s stamp
  • Your academic record, only if you are a current student at another institution of higher learning
  • USAf accreditation from the examination board for South African universities, only if you are an international student. Apply to for conditional exemption, foreign conditional exemption, or mature age conditional exemption.

Admission Requirements

For degree studies at the University of the Free State, we expect that:

  • You have an NSC or NCV with an endorsement that allows entrance to degree studies (Bachelor’s degree) or an equivalent qualification.
  • You meet all the minimum admission requirements for the programme you intend to study. Meeting the minimum admission requirements for your chosen/intended programme of study, does not guarantee admission, as limited spaces are available in each programme.
  • You have a minimum level of 4 (50%) in the chosen UFS language of instruction: English or Afrikaans (only applicable to certain programmes).
  • You must pass certain school subjects with a minimum level of achievement in order to take a certain university module. For example, you must get a mark of 70% for Mathematics in Grade 12 if you plan to study BSc majoring in Physics with Engineering subjects. Please refer to the section on the faculty-specific admission requirements, which also includes the respective compulsory subjects and achievement levels required per programme. Find more here
