Saidi The Southern African Institute of Driving Instructors National
SAIDI was established in 1975 under the auspices of the National Road Safety Council, Traffic Safety, in order to place driver training on a co-ordinated basis and to professionalize and standardize the industry.
Since the inception, great strides forward have been made, and SAIDI is recognized by such bodies as the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the Provincial Authorities, the Institute for Advanced Motorists of South Africa (IAM), the Automobile Association (AA) and the Department of Transport.
How do I become a Driving Instructor?
SAIDI constantly receives calls from members of the public who would like to become driving instructors. The document above gives the present guidelines, however:
Legislation for driving instructors is presently incorrectly applied, since driving instructors are issued with instructor’s certificates by Provincial authorities only, which is unconstitutional, since both National and Provincial Departments of Transport are required to legislate all road traffic legislation concurrently.
At present, Provincial authorities issues driving instructor’s certificates to those who have complied with the requirements as prescribed So no constitutionally correct laws for driving instructors are presently in effect.
We have written to the Honourable Minister of Transport, Dipuo Peters, to ask for a meeting with her, in order to try to correct the present situation and will keep you informed of any changes in legislation.
