Admissions 2020 for Grade 8

ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR GRADE 8’S 2020:
 
Online applications for Grade 8 2020 learner admission will open on Monday, 20 May 2019 and close 30 School days later on Monday, 22 July 2019.

The application process will be as follows:

  1. From 8:00am on the morning that applications open, go to the GDE Admissions website (www.gdeadmissions.gov.za) and register AND apply at the closest school to where you live and based on sibling, previous school, work and other. (You can apply at a maximum of 5 different schools – your first 2 applications MUST be based on your HOME address).
  2. You will receive an application reference number from the GDE online system. “Print screen” the confirmation of your successful application, including the reference number.
  3. Collect an Application Information Form from our reception (these will only be available from 8:00am on Monday 20 May 2019)
  4. Submit all supporting documents to ALL schools you have applied at, within 7 SCHOOL days of applying. The following documents are required at PARKTOWN HIGH SCHOOL FOR GIRLS:
  • Printout/ print screen of your GDE reference number as confirmation of your online application.
  • The completed Application Information Form.
  • Certified copies of both biological parents’ ID documents (death certificate if parent is deceased).
  • certified copy of your daughter / ward’s UNABRIDGED (full) birth certificate which reflects both biological parents details on it. (This may take 6-8 weeks from Home Affairs – please apply timeously. You may submit the receipt along with the application as well as her current birth certificate).
  • certified copy of your daughter / ward’s final Grade 6 report and Term 1 Grade 7 report.
  • A certified copy of Proof of permanent residential address which MUST be in the form of a utilities bill or a lease agreement (for a minimum period of 12 months) in the name of the parent or legal guardian of the applicant.
  • IF YOU HAVE APPLIED BASED ON WORK ADDRESS YOU MUST SUBMIT PROOF OF WORK ADDRESS AS WELL.
  • Immigrants must also submit certified copies of official permanent residence and study permit documents; diplomats to submit copies of passports and diplomatic identities.

 
In terms of the GDE rules, placement will be based on date and time of ONLINE application and executed in the following order:

  1. All learners who LIVE in the Feeder Zone of the School
  2. All learners who have Siblings currently at the School OR who currently attend one of the School’s Feeder Schools
  3. All learners whose parents/legal guardians (as recognised by SA law) WORK in the Feeder Zone of the School
  4. Everybody else

 
You will receive offers from schools at which your application has been successful, and you will be required to accept one of these offers. If you have not received an offer from a school at which you applied then your application was not successful at that particular school: Timeframe for acceptance will be advised once information is received from the GDE.
Since this is an external GDE system, all queries must be directed to the GDE Helpline 0800 000 789, and NOT to the school.

ADMISSION POLICY
The language of instruction at the school is English with the obvious exception of other languages offered as additional languages. It is in the best interests of the pupil that they are able to cope in an English medium environment.
 
Priority will be given to pupils whose parents/legal guardians (as recognised by SA law):

  • comply in full with the Admission Procedure, submitting all documentation on time, AND
  • who permanently reside in the area for which the School is the nearest suitable school.

If space permits, following the application of the above criteria, preference will be given to pupils who:

  • have specialised skills or talents that the school has the potential to develop, or
  • who have strong academic ability to be able to cope with the high standards expected at the school,

OR

  • are able to cope in a traditional girls school environment.

Preference will also be given to those who:

  • have siblings who are either at the school or who are Old Girls of the school, or
  • have a Mother who is an Old Girl of the school.

 
APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

  1. The School Governing Body has resolved that the Headmistress will administer and decide on admission in accordance with the SGB admissions policy.
  2. The Application Information Form must be completed in full and signed.
  3. All Application Information Forms for Grade 8 must be collected from the school and submitted along with required documents within 7 SCHOOL days of applying online.
  4. Residential address should be that of the parent or legal guardian. If the guardian is not the biological parent, proof of legal guardianship (as recognised by SA law), including a commitment to pay school fees, must accompany the application. The applicant must permanently reside at that address.
  5. Should the School become aware of any fraudulent documentation or information submitted, the application will be immediately disqualifies and will not be considered.

 
PLEASE NOTE THAT APPLICATION DOCUMENTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE ON THIS WEBSITE AND CAN ONLY BE COLLECTED from the reception office in the main building between 08h00 and 15h00, Monday to Friday during school terms.

ADMISSIONS 2020 – Grade 9-11


 Admissions will open on 20 May 2019. (This date was changed by the GDE on 10 May 2019)
 
Application Forms are only available at the school.
 
The fees for 2019 are R43040. As we are a government school, we do not offer any bursaries / scholarships.
 
Please note: we do not have boarding facilities.
 
The completed Parent Information Form / Application Form must be accompanied by the ALL the following documents:

  1. A CERTIFIED copy of the Learner’s unabridged birth certificate
  2. A CERTIFIED copy of the Learner’s latest school report
  3. CERTIFIED copies of ID documents of parents’/guardians’/person responsible for fees
  4. A CERTIFIED copy of Proof of residence of the parent / guardian with whom the learner lives, being either a municipal services bill or lease agreement (if lease is used please include id document and municipal services bill of owner)
  5. CERTIFIED copies of Proof of employment, showing street address of business for BOTH parents / guardians
  6. One passport size photograph of your daughter/ward

Where applicable …..

  1. Documentation showing proof of sibling relationship where learner seeks preferential placement
  2. A CERTIFIED copy of the Divorce Agreement indicating Custodial Parent
  3. A CERTIFIED copy of Proof of legal rights to fulfil the obligations of a Parent
  4. A CERTIFIED copy of Permanent Residence OR Study Permit

 
Learners are accepted into Grade 9 ~ 11 based on the admissions policy of the school and guidelines set out by the Gauteng Department of Education. At this stage acceptance is based on, but not limited to, availability of space in the relevant grade and the subjects that the learner is doing and living and/or working in the immediate vicinity of the school (the Official Feeder Zone Map is on our website).
 
NOTES

  1. Residential address should be that of the parent or legal guardian. If the guardian is not the biological parent, proof of legal guardianship (as recognised by SA law), including a commitment to pay school fees, must accompany the application. The applicant must permanently reside at that address.
  2. Applications for Grades 9 – 11 shall reach the Admissions Secretary by the end of the third school term of each year (for admission to the School for the following year). Admission to Grades 9 – 11 shall only be considered should there be available space and if the applicant fulfils the requirements of the Admissions Policy which has been approved by the School Governing Body.
  3. Should the School become aware of any fraudulent documentation or information submitted, the application will be immediately disqualifies and will not be considered.
